Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Global
Nutrition and Partnership, the Humanitarian Assistance Fellow will
provide coordination, programmatic and scientific support to the
Global Nutrition and Partnership Program, carrying out the best and
most efficient methods to complete assigned work as part of the
Public Health Institute's (PHI) Center for Wellness and Nutrition
(CWN).
CWN's vision is for a healthy nation where wellness is achievable
for all individuals and communities, and its mission is to build
capacity and leadership in communities and institutions to make
optimal health accessible for all. PHI CWN's work falls within the
four primary areas of training, education, research and evaluation,
and advocacy, all of which use a health equity framework to
variously address the priority areas of increasing access to and
consumption of healthier foods, with a focus on fruits and
vegetables; decreasing consumption of unhealthy foods and beverages
and increasing consumption of water; increasing physical activity
and preventing obesity and chronic diet related illnesses.
This Fellowship aims to create a unique avenue for graduates of
Minority Serving Institutions to enter the humanitarian field and
develop the skills and the necessary networks to establish a
long-lasting career.
The Fellow will be placed at the Public Health Institute, Center
for Wellness and Nutrition (CWN), an international health,
development and humanitarian organization based in the U.S. They
will participate in a rotational structure that supports their
foundational understanding of the health, development and
humanitarian sector by being exposed to both the
operational/support functions and the technical sub-fields that
comprise the profession. Within these rotations, the fellow will
develop a core set of technical and professional skills needed to
pursue a career in humanitarian assistance.
The Fellow will have an opportunity to develop, learn and explore
the humanitarian sector while working with the sector's leading
organizations. The Fellow will learn firsthand while exploring the
gamut of departmental functions and considerations as it relates to
humanitarian assistance programs (donor strategy, policy, fund
administration, international humanitarian protocols, humanitarian
finance, program design, and proposal development) and have the
opportunity to learn and develop in one of the humanitarian sectors
of intervention (e.g., Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
(WASH), Shelter and Settlements, Emergency Response, and
Nutrition). The Fellow will also participate in research, analysis,
report writing, and other duties related to Humanitarian Assistance
programming while developing their understanding of the
humanitarian sector and related competencies.
This is a regular part-time 90% FTE position with a schedule of 36
hours per week. The Fellowship term is expected to end on June 10,
2026.
Location: This position is a remote-hybrid position, meaning that
the incumbent generally works remotely but for regular required
visits to domestic and international venues in order to meet
business needs. Candidates must be able to work on a hybrid model
of remote and in office, and travel domestically and
internationally when needed.
Starting Pay: Full pay range for this position: $21.60 to $29.86
per hour. The starting wage for this position is $24.04 per
hour.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Fellow supports the successful completion of humanitarian
related program activities for the team under guidance from a
senior level staff within a variety of technical and support
functions. Other activities may be identified based on the
strengths and interests of the Fellow.

LEARNING OUTCOME
At the end of the fellowship, the Fellow will develop a
presentation that reflects their new skills and knowledge that
contributes to the organization's humanitarian efforts, showing
their ability to be reflective, coordinate with colleagues and
analyze complex situations.
