Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock has an immediate opening for an Electrical Harness Designer at their Sacramento, California Facility. The candidate will have the ability to shape the design of our Locomotives, Coach and Light Rail vehicles and work on complex designs involving high voltage and power applications on fast-moving trainsets. We are looking for professionals with the drive to work in the high paced rail industry to build new, robust and innovate designs for our future vehicles.

In this role you will develop electro-mechanical concepts from customer-based requirements into 3D harness models and component assemblies including 2D drawings for production. Designs will follow industry standards for a variety of car types and electrical systems therein. The position involves communicating with suppliers, and customers, internal and external on a regular basis

Position requires good understand of electrical and mechanical design fundamentals for many challenging integration topics. Must be eager to optimize and correct errors based on design reviews and production feedback. Must be highly detail oriented and take ownership of project deliverables into production and testing phases.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Execute (individually or as a member of an engineering team) electro-mechanical design tasks based on project work packages / schedules, utilizing industry standards and best engineering practices.
  • Design 3D harness models in Creo Parametric as well as releases of 2D drawings and bills of material (BOMs) from those designs into an ERP system (SAP)
  • Worked in a manufacturing environment, interfacing and addressing issues with production or field by revising models, drawings and/or instructions.
  • Research and select components using existing or new from catalogs with an emphasis on fittings, conduits, connector parts, custom fabrication parts and more complex welded assemblies. Revising parts and BOM's using Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Identify and understand the requirements to ensure personnel safety (i.e. grounding), mechanical protections and fastening of wiring.

    To thrive in this role, you have:

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with 3 or more years of similar work experience or associate's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with 5 or more years of similar work experience
    • Direct experience using Creo Parametric or equivalent CAD tool including creation of custom parts and selection of correct hardware combinations and materials.
    • Experience editing bills of material and part selection/setup.
    • Experience working on engineering projects and interfacing with project management
    • Experience with voltage class separation and mechanical protection of wires and cables
    • Experience designing grounding concepts and bonds
    • Rolling Stock experience is a bonus.

        This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications .
