are RocheThe OpportunityYou, as Scientist II in the Research and
Early Development Blood Screening Microbiology Subchapter in
Pleasanton, will support pre-clinical scientific studies in
research, which include biological sample handling, in vitro
transcription, nucleic acid purification, amplification and
detection for both blood screening and microbiology projects. Also,
you are:
- Performing both the technical and professional components of
pre-clinical and research oriented lab work with minimal guidance.
Performing hands-on research activities at the bench for multiple
hours per day (since this is largely a wet-lab based
position).
- Working under general supervision and/or independently
research, design, plan and execute innovative and well-controlled
experiments, with high attention to detail. Ensures activities are
consistent with project critical path, and responds appropriately
and with quality to changing priorities.
- Accurately, consistently, and promptly recording experimental
methods, materials, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
Analyzing data, evaluates results, and plans next steps.
Integrating previous and current results to determine next
experimental steps and the impact on long-term project goals.
- Presenting findings at group or departmental meetings. May
assist in preparing summaries, memos, internal reports,
presentations, manuscripts, etc.
- Collaborating and work closely with cross-functional teams
- Ensuring that all the training activities are up-to-dateWho you
are
- Bachelor's degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry,
Biochemistry or related field, and 2 years of relevant industry
experience required
- Master's degree and 4 years experience preferredBehaviours,
competencies and qualities of the ideal applicant
- Technical understanding of and laboratory experience in:
biological sample handling, in vitro transcription, nucleic acid
purification, amplification and detection.
- Experience with PCR, qPCR, dPCR and gel electrophoresis.
Hands-on experience with qPCR is highly desired, as assigned
projects will involve assisting in the development of qPCR assays
to diagnose pathogens.
- Experience with growing and manipulating BSL-2 bacteria is a
plus.
- Ability to learn and work effectively, exhibit a professional
manner and establish constructive working relationships.
- Good written and oral communication skills including the
ability to communicate with all levels within the department.
- Strong time management and organizational skills in a dynamic,
constantly changing environment.Relocation benefits are not offered
for this position.The expected salary range for this position based
on the primary location of California is 67,000 - 124,400. Actual
pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications,
geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by
law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on
individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies
