Position Overview:

As the Material Manger for our growing Rolling Stock operation, you will collaborate with Commodity Managers, Project Procurement Managers, Order Management, Quality Management and Engineering to analyze all suppliers in order to select the most suitable vendors who are able to deliver high quality products at competitive pricing. We will rely on your outstanding negotiation skills to create value with regards to key metrics such as lead-time, cost and quality. In this role, you will drive performance with our suppliers, collaborate with internal teams to ensure procurement data within our MRP system is correct and make your mark within a team that is focused on winning, succeeding and make an impact.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Ownership responsibility for assigned commodities and all associated data.
  • Understand contractual, commercial and operational working relationships with suppliers to ensure that contractual commitments are delivered.
  • Manage suppliers to meet objectives related to cost, delivery performance, schedule and quality.
  • Lead the management of suppliers escalated to strategic procurement due to performance issues, driving resolutions to ensure suppliers are delivering maximum value.
  • Issuing requests for quote and conduct negotiations and supplier selection for project demand.
  • Responsible for understanding Project Level Commodity Budget and using them in supplier quotation review.
  • Release and ongoing management of supplier purchasing agreements ensuring incorporation of contractual requirements and required purchasing documentation.
  • Updating and monitoring ordered components up to First Article Inspection (FAI).
  • Work closely with multi-departments and/or cross-functional areas to troubleshoot and resolve problems on Purchase Orders and Supplier invoices.
  • Reviews and analyzes Engineering changes with each supplier regarding cost impact.
  • Facilitates cost reductions needed in coordination with Commodity Management for the project to achieve overall improvement to materials.
  • Ensures data integrity in SAP in order to support project calculation with reliable material cost data, quotes and Lead-time data.
  • Design and conduct internal client-facing training, including development of guidance materials, on supplier management best practices, internal tooling and processes, troubleshooting supplier relationship roadblocks, and other programs as assigned.

    To thrive in this role, you have:

    • BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required in some areas
    • 5+ years of work experience in procurement preferred in Rolling Stock or in manufacturing environment
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
    • Excellent knowledge of SAP
    • Procurement/Supply Chain experience
    • Rolling Stock experience
    • Manufacturing experience

        This position is based in Sacramento , CA . We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The base salary range for this position in Sacramento , CA , is $ 107,200 - $ 125,800 and the annual incentive target is 10 % of the base salary. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications .
