Executive Directer, Center for Legal Immigration AssistanceSince 2001, CLIA has offered legal assistance to more than 10,000 Nebraskans for immigration matters. These include asylum applications, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), employment authorization, family-based petitions, Naturalization/Citizenship, U visas, and Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) petitions. In addition, CLIA helps undocumented immigrants with employment and housing legal issues through a partnership with Legal Aid of Nebraska and their Project UPLIFT. CLIA has recently received funding to provide mental health services to violence survivors in addition to immigration support.Position:CLIA is looking for an inspiring leader as its next Executive Director to support the growth and sustainability of this highly-respected organization. The next CLIA Executive Director will work closely with the Board to set the vision and goals to meet the ever-increasing demand for services. The Executive Director is responsible for the management and administration of all staff and operations and serves as the public face of the organization. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success at team and organization building and will develop collaborations to further CLIA's work in the community.Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Vision: Develop and execute a vision for the organization's future. Develop realistic short and long-range goals.
  • Leadership: Influence, motivate, and manage others to achieve the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of the organization. Demonstrate initiative and the willingness to accept and seek responsibility. Stay current with their own professional development needs as well as the needs of staff.
  • Lead CLIA's Immigration Legal Services Program: Work with staff to provide training, evaluate cases and manage resources.
  • Resource Development: Develop sustainable financial resources through grants, fundraising, and earned revenue to support the organization.
  • Financial Management: Develop and oversee CLIA budget, including income and expenses. Responsible for monthly financial reports, audit preparation, and grant financial reports.
  • Personnel Management: Select and lead personnel to build the organization through teamwork. Consistently apply the personnel policies established by the board and oversee compliance with all regulations.
  • Compliance/Risk Management: Ensure the integrity and quality of the programs, including observance of all federal, state, and local regulations; oversee grant compliance requirements; ensure the integrity and quality of the organization's programs and policies, grants, and finances.
  • Community Relations: Work with community, constituents, funders, and others to build positive relationships and recognition for the organization. Foster and build collaborative and strategic relations with government entities, nonprofits, and businesses. Share the story of CLIA at speaking opportunities.
  • Board Relations: Successfully communicate with and support the Board as a governing body. Ensure the Board has timely and accurate information. Participate in relevant board committees as needed.Qualifications:
    • J.D. from ABA certified law school and a current bar membership in good standing or accreditation with the Department of Justice
    • Two years of experience in immigration law assisting immigrants with U-Visas, VAWA self petitions, family petitions, naturalization, etc.
    • Experience in nonprofit leadership and program development and implementation, including fundraising, budgeting, and management
    • Sincere and informed commitment to equity and inclusion, social justice and dismantling individual and systemic violence against women and immigrants
    • Dedicated to providing high quality legal assistance and capable of handling complex legal issues on behalf of low-income immigrant populations
    • Outstanding public speaking skills
    • Experience with staff supervision around matters of professional development support and organizational development
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, as well as manage and provide ongoing training and support to a team of full- and part-time staff, interns, and volunteers
