Land, Buildings & Real Estate (LBRE) is the operational core of Stanford University's physical campus. The Department of Sustainability, Utilities and Infrastructure (SUI) brings an integrated and deliberate focus to campus sustainability. The department works to advance sustainability in campus operations for energy, water, waste, resiliency, and safety, optimizing and prioritizing efficiency in all aspects of campus life-from resource and utility management to transportation and community behavior. SUI develops strategic, long-term goals that help reduce Stanford's environmental impact, supporting the university's commitment to be an environmental steward. This role sits with the Office of Sustainability, a group within SUI. The Office of Sustainability (OOS) seeks a 2-year Fixed Term Sustainability Coordinator to join a diverse team of dedicated professionals and technical staff working to advance Stanford's sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will have excellent collaboration and organizational skills, and proactively work to support the success of staff events, projects, and programs. What you will do in this role: Characteristic Duties:

  • (50%) Sustainability Student Ambassador Program Management

    o Convene and collaborate with key program partners, including the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, and additional stakeholders to develop and align on the new and ongoing program design, goals, and strategy.
    o Recruit, interview, select, onboard and manage approximately 20-30 student sustainability ambassadors per academic year, working approximately 5 hours per week.
    o Develop and maintain onboarding and training materials for ambassadors in collaboration with program partners, particularly the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. On an ongoing basis maintain content libraries with the latest in opportunities across the engagement areas.
    o Lead onboarding at the start of each programmatic year.
    o Guide and mentor ambassadors in effective outreach strategies that increase engagement in sustainability-related opportunities.
    o Manage and mentor ambassadors through regular meetings and feedback; ensure ambassadors disseminate the latest sustainability-related information and opportunities effectively.
    o Create, collect and analyze metrics on program impact and effectiveness.
    o Convene quarterly meetings with program stakeholders to report progress and adjust program design.
    o Develop annual progress reports and report on key performance indicators.
  • (50%) Support Sustainable Stanford Living Laboratory Program
    o Sustainability Living Laboratory Event Management and Participation
    Manage all event logistics for Sustainable Stanford Living Laboratory hosted events including virtual and in-person, exemplifying sustainable event planning best practices.
    Coordinate both on-campus and off-campus tours as needed.
    Participate in partner events where Sustainable Stanford is present to serve as an ambassador of the living laboratory program, and actively recruit and engage with students.
    Manage team and partner meetings including coordination of calendars, event spaces, catering, AV needs, assisting with taking and disseminating notes and action items. Support agenda-setting and coordinating speakers and guests.
    o Sustainability Living Laboratory Student Recruitment and Record Management
    Assist with recruitment and advertising for open student positions, and serve as point of contact on application status.
    Coordinate interviews and selection process for new student hires.
    Establish and manage onboarding tasks with new student staff.
    Assist with maintaining mentor and student organization charts, list serves and customer/partner contact lists as changes occur.
    Oversee and improve team Google Drive record management for living laboratory program.
    o General Sustainability Living Laboratory Program Support
    Provide general support to program managers, including assisting with sustainability data collection and entry, outreach and education initiatives, behavior/social science research, and supporting student living laboratory projects.

To be successful in this role you must bring:
    • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Experience working with college students - recruiting and managing part-time student employees, with capacity and interest in mentoring and guiding students effectively.
    • Experience in sustainability program management, particularly with sustainability initiatives involving students.
    • Demonstrated experience in providing a full range of high-level independent administrative support combined with proven skill to coordinate complex activities and use independent judgment to organize and prioritize functions.
    • Experience in event planning and coordination including methods to reduce waste.
    • Experience participating in, contributing to, and following through on completion of projects.
    • Possesses strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, calendaring with Outlook and Zoom, and web-based applications.
    • Ability to collect, analyze, and report on program metrics.
    • Demonstrated typing/word processing skills to prepare correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets.
    • Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management skills.
    • Strong collaboration skills and experience working and communicating with diverse populations at all levels of the organization using diplomacy, flexibility, and a high degree of professionalism.
    • Position requires strict confidentiality and sensitivity, a high level of organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, tact and independent judgment. Additional Information: Physical Requirements:
      • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

        • Subject to and expected to comply with all applicable University policies and procedures, including but not limited to the personnel policies and other policies found in the University's Administrative Guide. The expected pay range for this position is $91,000-$99,000 annually. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
